Raleigh Mass Shooting Suspect: White Male Juvenile Has Been Arrested, Who Are The Victims?
Police have arrested a suspect in the mass shooting that killed five and injured many in Raleigh, North Carolina. Yet another news of gun violence has sent shockwaves throughout the States.
A total of five people, including an off-duty Police officer, were shot dead, with several others injured in Raleigh, North Carolina, United States.
Those wounded include a Police officer. The victims have been taken to hospital, one of whom remains in critical condition.
Raleigh Mass Shooting Suspect And How The Incident Unfolded
The Raleigh City Mayor, Mary-Ann Baldwin, said that the shooting occurred near the Neuse River Greenway, a popular trail on the outskirts of the state capital, just after 17:00 EDT (21:00 GMT) on Thursday.

The Mayor had earlier reported that the gunman was being “contained in residence in the area” by Police. He was reportedly cornered in a barn off Buffaloe Road. Raleigh Police later tweeted that the suspect had been taken into custody.
However, the motive behind the crime is yet to be established. The Raleigh Police Lieutenant Jason Borneo stated the rationale would probably “come to bear” in the coming days.
The gunman is reportedly a “white male juvenile,” according to Mr. Borneo. All we know is that he is a Caucasian teenage male and is currently in the hospital. Mr. Borneo said he could not provide any further details.
“Tonight, terror has reached our doorstep. The nightmare of every community has come to Raleigh,” N.C. Governor Roy Cooper said in a news conference.
He also thanked law enforcement agencies for their bravery and the work in capturing the shooter after losing one of their own.
Likewise, a visibly emotional Mayor said, “This is a sad and tragic day for the City of Raleigh.” He further said that everyone in Raleigh needs to unite and support one another during terrible loss. He also urged for the addressing of gun violence in the country.
Who Are The Victims Of The Raleigh Mass Shooting?
Five people were fatal victims of the mass shooting in Raleigh. It includes an off-duty Police officer who was shot dead.
Additionally, several others are injured and have been taken to the hospital. One of them, a civilian, remains in critical condition.
The injured victims also include a K-9 Police officer. Thankfully, he suffered non-life-threatening injuries on the knee and has since been released from the hospital.
The exact identities of the victims are yet to come out. Since the incident just took place some hours ago, we need to wait to know about the victims, the preparator, and the motive in more detail.
People living and working in the area were advised to remain in their homes. They were also asked to contact 911 if they saw anything or anyone suspicious.
Residents on their way home were allowed to go into the neighborhood only after waiting for several hours.
A resident who spoke to ABC11 said the neighborhood was shocked and found the heightened Police activity very alarming.
Mass shootings are a common and worsening problem in the U.S. Over 34,000 people have died in shootings in the country in 2022 alone, more than half of which were from suicide, according to the Gun Violence Archive website.
The trend of the mass shooting in the country is worrisome. It has almost consistently been on the rise since 2014. In 2020, the States saw as many as 611 mass shootings.
