Tim Duncan: Early Life

Tim Duncan was born on April 25, 1976, to the professional midwife, Ione, and a mason, William Duncan.

When Tim was 14 years old, his mom died of breast cancer.

He was raised with his two older sisters, Cheryl and Tricia, and an older brother, Scott Duncan, in Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.

His brother, Scott, is a film director and cinematographer, while his sister, Cheryl, is a nurse, and Tricia became a swimmer.

After quitting swimming, Duncan turned to basketball. He played on behalf of his school, where he scored 25 points in each game as a senior.

Coach Dave Odom at Wake Forest University held an interest in Duncan because he was a talented athlete and a quick learner.
