Who Are Azlin Arujunah And Ridzuan Mega Abdul Rahman? Parents Who Murdered Their 5-Year-Old Son

Azlin Arujunah And Ridzuan Mega Abdul Rahman were cruel parents who tortured their 5-year-old son for several months, leading to his death ultimately. He was not named publicly to protect the surviving sibling’s identity. 

With extreme torture, he was pronounced dead at a children’s hospital in Singapore on 23 October 2016. It is regarded as one of the worst child abuse in Singapore, which made headlines on the international platform.

In response to the event, the people who were involved in pushing the young boy to that stage were given punishment legally.

Who Are Azlin Arujunah And Ridzuan Mega Abdul Rahman?

Azlin Arujunah And Ridzuan Mega Abdul Rahman are the parents of the five-year-old boy who died of their torture.

With their disturbed personality, they went on to have such behavior resulting in being arrested and charged with murder.

Likewise, the late boy’s mother was also abused by her parents and did not have a happy childhood. Her Father was a drug addict in prison, and her mother neglected her, for which her grandparents had to take care of her parents. 

It can be assumed that she became addicted to drug abuse during her teenage years. Likewise, Ridzuan Mega Abdul Rahman, his Father, also had a troubled childhood. 

As per the reports and testimonies of Ridzuan and his family, he belonged to dysfunctional family background.

At the same time, there is no information about his Father, and he could not be with his mother as she often faced legal problems with the authorities for drug-related crimes.

What Did The Couple Do To Their 5-Year-Old Son?

The Couple, Azlin Arujunah and Ridzuan Mega Abdul Rahman, reached the stage to kill their son through continuous torture. The boy was their youngest child.

The couple used boiling water to scald the boy on several occasions resulting in severe burns and scald injuries which caused the boy to die in hospital weeks after the first of the four scalding incidents.

Before living with his parents, the victim child was nurtured by Azlin’s close friend Zufarina Abdul Hamid. She would take care of the child for four years before returning him to Azlin but later led to the child’s abuse and death by his parents.

What Legal Punishments Did Azlin Arujunah And Ridzuan Mega Abdul Rahman Receive?

Ridzuan Mega Abdul Rahman was first arrested on 26 October 2016 and charged with hurting by using hot water to scald the boy.

On the other hand, Azlin binte Arujunah was later arrested and charged with murder the following day.

The hospital authority registered the case with the Police regarding the matter. In 2020, their murder charges were deducted to voluntarily causing dangerous harm, and the couple was sentenced to 27 years in jail each for the offenses. 

Additionally, Rahman received twenty-four strokes of the cane, and Azlin was to serve an additional year in prison instead of caning.

Upon legal appeal, however, Azlin was convicted of murder, while Ridzuan’s sentence was increased to life imprisonment.

Three months later, Azlin was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Court of Appeal on 18 October 2022, despite the prosecution’s urgings for the death penalty on Azlin.
