He threatened her and stalked her. Cruz would say horrible things to her and harass her to the point where I had to escort her to the bus to ensure she was okay. He said, “I’m going to kill you,” and he would do this repeatedly. She was never left alone, thanks to everyone.

The three-month trial included gruesome recordings, images, and evidence from the massacre and its aftermath, heartbreaking statements from the victims’ family members, and a tour of the still-blood-spattered structure. After two days and seven hours of deliberation, the jury delivered its recommendation.

A unanimous decision on at least one count is required for a death sentence in Florida. Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer will formally hand down the life sentences on November 1.

At the punishment session, relatives, students, and teachers Cruz injured will have the chance to speak.

As the jury’s recommendations were given, Cruz sat slumped over and mostly just gazed at the table. His hair was untidy.

As the life sentences were announced, murmurs began to emerge from the family area, which was occupied by roughly thirty parents, spouses, and other relatives of the victims.

Many shook their heads, wore angry expressions, or covered their eyes. As they left court, some parents started to cry.
