Who is Artyom Kazantsev? Russian school shooting leaves at least 15 dead and numerous injured.

Authorities in central Russia said that a shooter opened Fire inside a school, leaving 15 people dead and 24 others injured, before turning the pistol on himself.

The incident happened on Monday at School No. 88 in Izhevsk, an area of the Udmurtia region located 960 kilometers (600 miles) east of Moscow.

Russia’s Investigative Committee identified the shooter as Artyom Kazantsev, 34, a graduate of the same institution, and it was noted that he was donning a black T-shirt with “Nazi emblems.” His motivations have not been revealed in any depth.

The Committee reported that 24 persons, including 22 children, were injured in the incident, which claimed the lives of 11 children.

Alexander Brechalov, the governor of Udmurtia, claimed the shooter, listed as a patient at a mental health institute, committed suicide after the assault.

On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned the incident in Izhevsk as “inhuman.”

The Investigative Committee of Russia claimed that at least 15 people were killed on Monday, including 11 children, when a shooter wearing a T-shirt with a red swastika opened Fire in a school in the city of Izhevsk, in central Russia. The shooter, who had two firearms, also ended his own life.

A security guard for the school and two instructors were among the fatalities.

In Izhevsk, the administrative center of the Udmurt Republic, a territory in central Russia to the west of the Ural Mountains, the attack took place at School No. 88. Twenty children were among the 23 injured, according to Alexander Brechalov, the leader of the Udmurt Republic. 

According to the Washington Post, two weapons next to his body had braided cords with the words Columbine, Dylan, and Eric on them, a possible allusion to the 1999 Columbine school shooting in which Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 13 people.

A Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, described the massacre as an “inhuman terrorist attack.”
