Numerous admirers posted condolences on the Facebook page, expressing their sorrow over the talented 82-year-old monarch’s passing. As a result, Denmark Queen Margrethe II death hoax caused the Twittersphere to go crazy, as usual.

While some gullible followers trusted the message, others were immediately doubtful of the story, possibly having learned their lesson from the numerous phony celebrity death reports that have surfaced in recent months.

Margrethe was crowned queen on January 15, 1972, one day after her Father, King Frederik IX, passed away after a brief illness.

Margrethe had asked her court to alter the Sept. 10-11 schedule for her 50th-anniversary celebrations out of respect for the late British monarch.

One of the events she abruptly postponed was a carriage trip across Copenhagen and a guest appearance on the balcony of the Amalienborg Palace.
