Denny Ross Dateline: Hannah Hill Murder Update, Where Is He Now?

Denny Ross, who brutally beat, strangled, and raped Hannah Hill in May 1999, is serving his life-long sentence in jail.

Although Ross was found guilty in 1999, he got convicted only 13 years later due to a mistrial. The Hill family had to wait long before their daughter would get justice.

The NBC show Dateline investigated the case in a 2013 episode called The Night Hannah Hill Disappeared. The crime series American Justice also highlighted the incident in a 2003 episode, Who Killed Hannah Hill?

Denny Ross Dateline: Hannah Hill Murder Update

Denny Ross, now 43, is currently in jail. In 2012, he was sentenced to life in prison for a minimum of 19 years.

Then-teenager Denny Ross was convicted of the rape and murder of Hannah Hill in 1999. The court announced the guilty verdicts, including two counts of murder, felonious assault, evidence tampering, and abuse of a corpse in 2012.

After going through Hannah’s phone records, the Police found Denny as a suspect. Hannah and Denny were acquaintances. Denny had lived with her boyfriend, Brad, for a few months, and Hannah had attended a few of his House parties.

The Police already knew Denny, who had been caught selling drugs to undercover officers and pled guilty to dealing cocaine. He was on probation for his offense.

Furthermore, Denny Ross had also beaten, strangled, and raped Jennifer Tittle, similar to Hannah. However, she could make it out alive by pretending to be dead during the altercation.

What Is The Hannah Hill Incident?

On Wednesday, May 19, 1999, Hannah Hill, 18, got home from work and had planned to stay in for the night. She later received a phone call and left her parent’s home at 10:30 pm, telling her mother that she would be back later.

Her mother, Kimberly, thought that Hannah seemed upset when she left. The 18-year-old did not come home that night, but her family was not worried, assuming she had stayed at a friend’s House.

However, when her boss called the next day looking for her and no friends had seen her around, the family got tensed and filed a missing person report.

The Police took no immediate action. They thought that all teenagers tend to take off with their friends for a day or two without notifying anyone.

Hannah’s body was discovered in the trunk of an abandoned car one week after she went missing. She was found half-naked.

Hannah had been beaten and died due to “asphyxiation by manual neck compression.” There were cuts and bruises on her face and a bite mark on her arm. The Police believed that Hannah was raped. 

Although her boyfriend, Brad, was known to be mentally and physically abusive to Hannah, there was no indication that he was involved.

Who Was Hannah Hill?

Hannah Christine Hill was born in Akron, Ohio, United States, in May 1980. She was a Caucasian female and 18 years old at the time of the incident.

Hannah lived with her parents, Elza and Kimberly Hill. She had three brothers, including her late elder brother Justin Hill.

She was a popular girl who had just graduated from high school. Hannah worked as an ATM secretary during the summer and saved up to buy her first car. She planned to go to college after the summer.

The teenager had a boyfriend, Brad O’Born, whom she lived with for a while. However, their relationship was volatile and violent at times. So she moved back with her parents, although she and Brad were still together.
