Despite the 11-year age gap between the two, Yolanda deeply admired Selena and was dedicated to promoting her. Unfortunately, Yolanda’s obsession grew too intense, eventually leading to the singer’s death.

On that fateful day, the two met up at a Days Inn in Corpus Christi, Texas, where Yolanda pulled out a gun and shot Selena in the back. Ninety minutes later, Selena was declared dead at the hospital, leaving a nation in shock.

On March 31, 1995, a tragic event occurred in Corpus Christie, Texas: Selena Quintanilla was shot and killed by Yolanda Saldívar.

Despite the medical team’s efforts, the bullet that had been fired had caused a severed artery, and Selena died due to hypovolemic shock, her passing being officially declared at 1:05 pm.

She was only 23 years old at the time. As a sign of respect and mourning, two weeks after her death, on April 12, 1995, then-Texas governor George W. Bush declared her birthday to be “Selena Day” in Texas.

Saldívar is serving her sentence at the Mountain View Unit, a maximum-security facility in Texas, and is eligible for parole in 2025-30 years after her crime was committed.

Who Was Selena Quintanilla Perez Husband?

Chris Pérez and Selena had a remarkable love story that will never be forgotten. They met in the early 90s when Chris joined Selena’s band, Selena y Los Dinos, as a guitarist.
