Although, he had a minor medical scare in January 2022, where he was reported to have experienced Supraventricular Tachycardia (STV), a rapid heartbeat in the heart’s upper chambers.

He was rushed to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, but after receiving a diagnosis with no complications, Scott was sent home.

Currently, Pelt is completely healthy and doing what he does best, reporting and entertaining sports fans worldwide.

Scott Van Pelt was born to Cathie Mathis, his mother, and Sam Van Pelt, his father, on July 9, 1966, in Brookeville, Maryland. However, he grew up in Washington, D.C.

He earned his high school diploma from Sherwood High School in Sandy Springs, Maryland, and his degree in radio/television and cinema from the University of Maryland in 1988. 

At the university, Van was an active Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity member.

During this time, tragedy struck him as his father expired right as he was completing university.

In 2011, Van Pelt wedded Stephanie, with whom he has three children.

The eldest is their daughter, Lila Catherine, born in 2012, followed by Sam, born in 2016, and Charlie, the youngest, born in 2018.
