Douglas Lima was born on January 5th of the year 1988, in Goiania of Brazil. His father’s name is Fausto Lima, and his mother’s name is Cologera Lima. Information regarding his parent’s occupation is unknown.

He has an older brother. His name is Diego Lima. Soon the entire Lima family moved to Georgia state of the United States of America.

Moving to a new country, they found it hard to cope with the language and the lifestyle here.

But even in those difficult days, they had one hope which was Martial arts.

Both the Lima brother started training in the American Top Team founded by Dan Lambert in the year 2001. They were trained with fighters such as Roan Carneiro.

Douglas Lima went to Joseph Wheeler High School for his high school education. He never made it to college since he already was pursuing boxing.

Debut Years

Douglas Lima is known as the Phenom in the boxing world. He made his official professional debut in Wild Bill’s Fight Night in 2006.

The match was set against Julio Carlos Molestina. Douglas eventually won in the Knock out round. This was his first fight and first win.

After his professional debut, Douglas Lima consecutively won the next four fights. The fights were against boxers such as Steve Linton, Nathan Ostercamp, John Nellermoe, and Ray Perales.

But with victories come defeats too. Douglas came to terms with his first professional defeat in a match against Matt Brown in the International Sport Combat Federation Pro East Coast Welterweight Title.

The match took place in February of 2007.

American Fight League

Douglas started in the American Fight League after being invited by Brent Weener in may of 2008. Since Douglas was a rookie, Brent Weener thought it’d be easy to defend his title.

But as the match progressed in the first round, Brent went for a triangle choke move for Douglas which he was unsuccessful.

Brent went for the same move in the second round, which transitioned into an armbar, making Douglas give up.

Brent went on to say it was quite a match as lots of people expected him to lose. Following his loss, Douglas never fought another match in the American Fight League.

World Extreme Cagefighting

After winning another fight in a total knockout, Douglas wanted to explore the world of extreme cage fighting. His debut match was against Justin Haskin in the WEC 39.

However, due to some immigration issues, Douglas could not appear for the match. And the WEC never even scheduled another fight.

But Douglas did fight in the Kind of Cage. In his debut match against Ultimate Fighter Titleholder Charles Blanchard, he lost by a unanimous decision.


Maximum Fighting Championship

Douglas competed in the Maximum Fighting Championship in the September of 2010.

His first match was against Ryan Ford. It was Home ground for Ryan Ford, but Douglas defeated him with an armbar move at the beginning of the second round.

For his victory, he was given a chance to fight Jesse Juarez for the MFC World Welterweight Title. Jesse got defeated by Lima through an armbar midway in the final round. With this win, he got the title of the MFC World Welterweight.

After gaining his title, he had to defend the title too. He defended his title against Terry Martin at the MFC 29. The match ended in a total knockout.

Bellator Fighting Championship

Bellator Fighting Championship announced they had signed Douglas Lima in May of 2011. He entered the fifth season of the Bellator Fighting Championship.

His debut match was against Steve Carl, and he won with a unanimous decision.

Then Douglas fought Chris Lozano and Ben Saunder, winning both of them in a second-round knockout.

Even though he had a shot at the title in a match against Ben Askren, he lost the match on April 6th of 2012, via a unanimous decision.

In the eighth season of the Bellator fighting championship, Lima won against a possible protection Michail Tsarev in a total knockout through leg strikes in the second round.

He was also supposed to face his long-time nemesis from AFL Brent Weener, but at the later moment, Brent was replaced by Bryan Baker. The match resulted in scoring Lima the win in the first round.

Lima was scheduled to fight Ben Saunder again for a rematch but could not perform due to a broken hand. The match was scheduled for later. And Douglas won with a brutal head kick knockout against Ben Saunders.

The 2014 season of the BFC proved to be very fruitful for Douglas. He has a match against Olympic judo player Rick Hawn, and Lima successfully defeated him.

Lima was now the winner of the Bellator Fighting Championship Title.

After winning the title, Douglas suffered from a knee injury in a fight. He had to stay away from any fights for the next 15 months. He spent all that time in surgery and recovery.

Post Injury

When the Phenom finally returned to the ring, he had to defend his title against Andy Koreshkov. Sadly on July 17th of 2015, Douglas lost his title via a unanimous decision.

But all was not lost, and Douglas Lima won the rematch against Andy Koreshkov. This gave him his title back on November 10th of 2016.

The next year Bellator signed Lima for another two years. In these two years, he had to defend his title against Lorenz Larkin and Rory Mac Donald. But he lost against Rory Mac Donald.
