He extended his record with a throw of 80.11 meters to end his junior championship in style during the IAAF International Centennial Meet in Havana, Cuba.

2012 London Olympic Championship

During his first Olympic debut in the 2012 London Olympic Championship, Keshorn made an impressive start and made it to the finals.

In the finals, he broke his previous personal record with 84.58 meters to win the Olympic javelin gold medal for the first time in his career.

He defeated many top athletes in the Olympics, such as Andreas Thorkildsen, two-time defending Olympic Champion, and Antti Ruuskanen.

With that victory, he became the youngest Olympic champion in the javelin throw and the second non-European to win the Olympic gold in men’s javelin throw.

Moreover, Keshorn won the gold medal after the American thrower CY Young in Helsinki, who won last in 1952.

After his win, Steve Backley, a former three-time Olympic medalist, said that Keshorn was lucky to be in the first position as everyone else struggled with the wind.

Bringing home the Olympic gold medal, Walcott became a national hero, and the day he arrived back in Trinidad on August 13, it was declared a national holiday.

Ankle Injury and Commonwealth Games

After an extraordinary year, 2013 was much of a disappointment as he couldn’t really participate in several competitions because of his ankle injury.

However, Walcott came stronger in 2014 to compete in the 2014 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland.

After a long six-week training, he came back with another personal best of 85.28 meters during the qualifying round of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

But unfortunately, at the finals, he came at the second position with a throw of 82.67 meters, while Julius Yego came first with 83.87 meters.

Walcott was sorely disappointed as he could have made higher, which he did in his qualifying round.

Similarly, during the IAAF Diamond League’s final meeting in Zurich, Switzerland, Walcott again came in second place with 85.77 meters while the first place, Thomas Rohler, made 87.63 meters.

Tokyo Olympics 2020

During his 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Keshorn was placed at Group B in the qualification phase.

Walcott finished at the 7th position in the group category, causing him to miss the men’s javelin throw finals.

During his throw in Group B, Walcott made a maximum throw of 79.33 meters.

With this disqualification, Walcott was out for the third time from the Olympic Javelin finals.
