Similarly, Lany’s sister was a speed skating coach who instructed Mo to improve his skills.

Lany’s husband was an ex-basketball player. His name was Ted. And, Ted was the one who gave Mo’s nickname as “Lany’s kid.”

In an interview with Powell Movement, Mo revealed that he has immense love and respect towards Lany, and he will be forever grateful for her.

In addition to that, Sanders also revealed that he kept Lk after his nickname ” Quadzilla” in honor of Lany. LK stands for Lany’s Kid.

Getting into Inline Skating

During the late 90s, inline skating gained popularity. At that time, Mo Sanders was working at the local skating shop.

Once when he was working at the skating ring as a Dj, he met a local roller blade rep. They gave Mo a pair of inline skates.

Then, Mo was very interested in trying out the inline skates. He danced in the rhythm with songs on inline skates.

Similarly, he performed tricks and jumps. Mo jumped over cars, logs, and people.

Many observers were fascinated by his exceptional skills. His ability to breakdance and long jump on inline skates made him the center of attention. 

As a result, a local Tacoma News interviewed him. He was on the cover page of the magazine. After that, he skated for a couple of small companies.

Stepping into a more prominent platform

Soon after getting into the cover page of a local magazine, he gained popularity. 

Later, a local skate company called “Ultra Wheels” reached out to him. They offered Mo 300 dollars to work with them. So basically, work was to performs tricks and moves with their inline skates.

Mo took the opportunity, and it changed his life. He went from a black boy living in a hood and playing in $10 skates to working with Ultra wheels, putting on a show, and earning $300 per month.

They formed an inline skating team. There were three members in a group, including Mo. Chad and Jessy were other two members.

As a team, they performed freestyle tricks, and they also danced with rollerblades.

Afterward, they were picked up by a big inline skating company. Mo Sanders worked with K2, and Chad worked with Rollerblade.

Then, he visited different places such as Belgium, Amsterdam, Switzerland, Luxemburg, etc.

In addition, he performed his tricks and dance, and he also watched the performance of the local people.

Mo Sanders: Competition and Appearances

He made an appearance in Roller Jam, a tv series presenting roller derby. He auditioned for the show, and finally, he got selected. 

In the Roller Jam, Quadzilla was well-known for his acrobatic movement and multi-colored hair.

However, he stated roller jam sucked because of too much script and drama in the show.

Besides, he was also seen in roller derby documentaries such as “This is how we roll,” “Wheels will Land,” and “Derby Baby.”

In 2005, he was one of the team members of the jam skating team “Quad Express.” In the Roll Bounce Championship, his team reached to national finals.

Similarly, Mo also appeared in the opening of Roll Bounce film; Enchanted.  

In 2011, Sanders played a significant role in Men’s Roller Derby Association Championship. He became second in the championship.

Furthermore, Quadzilla LK  also skated for Puget Sound Outcast Derby.

Mo has also worked as a roller skate coach. He coached for various teams such as Rat City Rollergirls, Oly Rollers.

Besides, Sanders played a vital role in the National Banked Track Championship as he led Team into the second position. 

In 2009, he managed another team named “Team Legit.” He led the team to win a national title and an international title.

In 2011, Mo Sanders worked as a head coach for Rat City.
