How it started

The 2x Olympic Gold winner started in the shot put as well as discus throw. He threw his first shot put in Primary School at the age of 14.

Tomasz set his Personal Best in outdoor shot in DN Galan, where he threw a massive 21.95 m in 2009.

Also, 2009 was his best year as he won gold in Torino at the European Athletics Indoor Championship.

Moving into the 2012 Olympics, his techniques were still shaky, but as Tomasz reached the elimination stage, everything fell into the right place. He was confident in him winning the gold.

Most people were expecting a fierce battle between the Americans and David Storl, the 22-year-old world champion from Germany. But, the Polish giant had his own script.

“It’s great. Great story that I defend my title,” he said. “What can I say? I do it again.”

Majewski retained his gold throwing 21.89 m and became the first male shot put thrower to defend his Olympic title since Parry O’Brien in 1956.

David Storl earned the silver with 71-8 3/4 (21.86), and Reese Hoffa gave the U.S. the bronze with 69-8 (21.23).

Tomasz Majewski is only the third shot putter to successfully defend the Olympics title.
